Viso: Cadernos de estética aplicada is a Brazilian peer reviewed academic journal on aesthetics and philosophy of art. We accept submissions about traditional themes in philosophical aesthetics, such as judgement, experience, genius and beauty, provided their discussion is based on analyses of single works of art. We also publish translations and reviews on major new studies in the field.
Viso: Cadernos de estética aplicada is aimed at students, scholars and the general public with an interest in aesthetics and related areas. Although our editorial board is mainly composed of philosophy professors, we accept submissions in any field of research provided the article is found compatible with the journal’s mission and scope.
Viso: Cadernos de estética aplicada accepts submissions from PhD students and researchers with a PhD degree (minimum). Submissions for the main section must also be original: the articles may not have been published in other journals when the issue that contains them is released.
The main section of Viso: Cadernos de estética aplicada contains articles which discuss traditional themes in philosophical aesthetics, such as judgment, experience, genius and beauty, based on analyses of single works of art. Articles published in this section are double blind refereed. They must also be unpublished work not under consideration elsewhere.
The journal also features special sections dealing with relevant themes in aesthetics. The “Latest” section publishes articles on recent developments in art; “History of Aesthetics” is aimed at developing a systematic approach to authors and problems of historical significance in the field; “Controversy” requires authors to present a polemic topic and take a clear side on the matter. Viso: Cadernos de estética aplicada also publishes translations and reviews.
Articles published in the special sections are selected by the chief editors with the informal counseling of the Editorial Board. Each issue may feature different special sections depending on the articles it contains. With the author’s previous consent, articles originally submitted for publication in the main section may be relocated to a special section.
Viso: Cadernos de estética aplicada occasionally publishes special issues with the results of academic events or research on specific themes. These issues may have external editors.
Articles published in the main section are double blind refereed, which means that neither the identity of authors is revealed to reviewers nor the identity of reviewers is revealed to authors. If existent, references to authorship are removed from manuscripts prior to the refereeing process. Referees are also specifically encouraged to decline reviewing texts if they know, or suspect they know, the identity of the author.
Each manuscript is initially reviewed by two referees who must determine whether it should be accepted or rejected. If the two referees disagree, a third and final referee will be consulted. Each referee may optionally formulate changes that must be made by the author for publication.
After the refereeing process is concluded, and if the manuscript is not unconditionally accepted, users may access the reviews through the our online submission system. The identity of referees remains undisclosed. Articles conditionally accepted will only be published if the authors make the changes requested by the referee(s).
Accepted manuscripts will be published in the next issue following the conclusion of the refereeing process. Editors may make small changes to correct typing errors and adjust the text to journal standards.
Accepted manuscripts will only be published if they follow our Style Guide. Authors may be required to adjust their work to our standards prior to publication.
Prior to the refereeing process, editors may reject a manuscript if they find it incompatible with the journal’s mission and scope, regardless of any quality evaluation. Submissions of this nature will be cancelled and the text will not be sent to referees.
Articles published in the special sections are selected by the chief editors with the informal counseling of the Editorial Board. If you wish to publish your work in a special section, please contact us directly.
