Even though he had an intense performance at his time, in philosophical debates and literary production, Karl Philipp Moritz (1756-1793), according to reports of history of philosophy and literature, rises as a philosopher of philosophers, a writer of writers. Nevertheless, as from the early 20th century, especially German authors and researchers started to bring him out of the shadows and acknowledge his contributions to establish aesthetics as a discipline and reflections on language, literature and pedagogy.
This text intends to approach, through the idea of ornament, two reflection fields: the aesthetic and the psychological. If the ornament is thought jointly with the beautiful, if its role is always secondary, i.e., a part of the whole, couldn´t we transpose the same idea to psychology scope and think of the relation between a life and life as whole? Is it possible to talk about psychological ornaments?
